This venue is suitable for all-comers as it is designed to allow gentle or more exciting routes depending on group type. The amount of rain also affects the type of session you will get but the experienced instructors will ensure you have a great and safe time. You will be fully briefed before you set off. All the equipment is provided (wetsuits, Buoyancy aids, Helmets, Cagoules) but you will need to provide a pair of trainers you can get wet, or a pair of wet-boots (available to purchase from Eddylines Llangollen).
You can go rafting from 8 years upwards. Weight limits apply (Maximum of 20 stone). Rafting sessions last about two hours. We can accommodate whole groups – or just you. Just contact us and leave the rest to us. Non-participants may wish to watch the rafting action from the comfort of our riverside café.
If you are doing more than one water-based activity remember to bring additional dry clothing - and don’t forget your towel. You’ll get wet!

This costs £70 per person, with a minimum group booking of 5 persons. This is our most popular whitewater rafting session at Bala, suitable for groups. In the two hours you will usually get 4 exhilarating and adrenalin fueled runs down the steep and rocky mountain river. This is a group session for a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 7 participants per raft. Everyone must be 12 years old or over, and must be able to swim at least 25m before they can brave the rapids in our 14 foot, inflatable raft. In the two hours you will get as many runs down the river as time allows; this is usually four runs.
Before the session commences you will be kitted out in our safety equipment and compulsory wet suits Following this you will attend a full safety briefing with one of our qualified guides, who will instruct your group on both safety and rafting techniques. You will then be bussed up to the start point where you will begin your first run down the course. After each run we will chauffeur you up to the top of the river to start another descent. Each trip down will offer new and exciting challenges as you become more confident paddlers and your guide becomes more determined to get you wet!
Remember to smile for the camera on the way down!
Each run down the river lasts approximately 20 minutes, and the rafting course is around 2km in length. It is a steep, rocky course and the river is classed as a grade 3/4. (This is a worldwide accepted rating that grades the technical difficulty of rapids on a river. Grade 1 is gentle flowing water, and grade 6 is considered commercially un-runnable).
All Bala rafting must be booked by phone, however you can still purchase rafting vouchers on-line which may be redeemed against Bala rafting by phone.
Please note : Bala rafting may be cancelled at short notice if the Dam above is not releasing on the date of the activity. We will always contact immediately if you are affected by this eventuality. You may transfer your booking to one of our other sites such as Llangollen or Ironbridge (in which case a refund of the difference will be payable) or receive a voucher to rebook at Bala on another day. You choose which option. Sorry, but we cannot issue refunds if the activity is cancelled for any reason outside of our control. Please read our terms and conditions for more information.
