STOP PRESS - 16th June 2007
Violetta Oblinger-Peters has become the latest major Championship medal winner for Jim Jayes, the former British team coach.
The small town of Liptovsky-Mikulas in the Tatry Mountain region of Slovakia, has been overrun this weekend by Kayak enthusiasts from all over the world to see who would carry off the title of European Champion 2007. Jim has coached Vio and her husband Helmut Oblinger in the past and achieved many successes with the Austrian husband and wife team. Jim was delighted with Vio's performance today at the European Kayak Slalom Championships.Vio held off stiff competition from veteran Mandy Planert (Germany) who took Silver and former double Olympic champion Stepanka Hilgertova (CZE) taking bronze. The women's event saw some tight racing with only 3 seconds separating the top 4. The local heroine, Jana Dukatova and the current Olympic Champion Elena Kaliska both failed to make the medals on their home course, to the disappointment of the crowd, but Violettas flawless performance was testament to the close relationship she has with her coach who helped ensure she held her nerve to the last.

JJ Canoeing and Rafting Ltd
The great news from JJs this coming year is the full scale re-development planned for the centre, with the main mill building soon becoming residential and holiday flats with restaurant and bar. This leaves the way for a complete rebuild of the activity centre. We are looking to have completely new parking, changing, shower, and café and meeting rooms. It is also envisaged to have indoor areas for other new exciting activities as well as increasing our current outdoor range extensively.
Further development of the river is also planned, with the addition of new boulders and weirs to create even more play waves and stoppers. With white water in the river 365 days a year this development will continue JJ Canoeing & Rafting reputation at Mile End Mill for providing a unique environment for white water as well as other outdoor sports and activities.
Jimmy Jayes, the Centre owner has recently returned from coaching the British Olympic Team (who were out in force at the recent Llangollen International Slalom Event). He has now returned full time to the business and is keen to help develop local talent among our youngsters. Jim's coaching record includes athletes who have achieved medals at both world championship and Olympic level. With the upcoming 2012 games he is on the lookout for local athletic talent. Any youngsters interested should contact the centre.
Other developments just upstream of the Mill includes the opening of the new exclusive ECOLOG homes on what was previously the camp site, with over thirty residential and rental cabins and the opening of the new 5* standard White Water Manor Hotel, which includes a luxurious roman bath and leisure complex as well as bar and restaurant.
All this can only add to the pleasure of visiting and taking part in activities and experiencing this unique attraction in the Vale of Llangollen. Undoubtedly this will bring substantially more business to the town, and raise the profile of Llangollen as a unique tourist destination in its own right, for outdoor activities and leisure.
JJ's is always keen to build links with local businesses and is looking to increase the ways in which we can sell our products. As retail and residential businesses you can become a reseller of JJ's activities and earn an excellent percentage on those sales.
